Elon dance majors were set to trade the Marley floor of the studios for the scenery of the Lambert Academic Village this weekend to open the university’s 2022-23 Performing Arts production season. But the annual site-specific concert “Dancing in the Landscape” was canceled alongside some other Family Weekend events as a result of tropical storm Ian.

Lauren Jacobbe was 17 years old when she tore her meniscus. While the tear itself was small, the injury was big in its consequences. Jacobbe had to face the idea of no longer being able to do what she loved. Having to face the idea of no longer being able to do what she loved, the absence of dancing caused Jacobbe to reevaluate her identity.

Elon University students are quick to find their spots — a place where they, unintentionally or otherwise, will spend most of their time over the course of four years. Sophomore Kayla Spalding’s spot is the Center for the Arts. She spends 10 hours a week on average in dance classes, and the CFA has become a place of motivation, holding some of her favorite memories.
